5Fabulous Optics
By Jonathan P. Hodgson
I bought one pair of these last April (2009). Once my wife and I had used them a couple
of times it was clear that we each needed our own pair so we bought a second pair. They are quite simply an astonishing value for money. Really easy to use with wonderful quality of view.

5Birding - Vortex vs Minolta 8x42
By J. Shah
I bought the Vortex Diamondback 8x42 after I lost my Nikon Monarch 8x42. Here are comments based on my experience, after a few weeks of birding with the Vortex.

Vortex Diamondback 8x42 Nikon Monarch 8x42
================================
Life time warranty Limited warranrty.
Sturdier case Floppy case, however more compact.
18mm eye relief 15.5mm eye relief. Vortex are better for me as I wear eyeglasses. (Let me know if the values are not correct).
Heavier Lighter; less strain on the neck.
Focus knob stiff Focus knob does not require much torque. This is important when trying to focus on a fidgety bird.
Cheaper About $50 more expensive.
Good colors Better, slightly more vibrant colors.

Both have lens covers that can be easily lost. Both are excellent buys. If I had to buy again I would likely buy the Nikon, however I have no regrets getting the Vortex.

5Awesome pair of birders!
By RD Ward
I have spent months researching the best value for money pair of 8x42 birding binoculars. While the Nikon Monarch is touted by many websites and reviewers of Amazon to the best value for money birders to buy, I dedided to give the Vortex Diamondback a shot with their $40 cheaper price tag.

Needless to say I am extremely impressed by the performace of the Vortex. The build quality is excellent and should last a lifetime. The clarity of the image is outstanding. I am really impressed with the binocs in low light and am blown away by how quickly I can spot birds in dense and dark foliage. The only one issue I have is the carry case. It is way too large for the binoculars, almost as if they have a one-size-fits all carry case...but then these binocs should be used and not left in their carry case!
