Even though, I don't have a lot of experience with good binoculars, the Oceanpro's quality, image brightness, field of view, and image sharpness is impressive. I bought the Oceanpro to replace a broken pair of Tasco 10x50 with the intention of getting a smaller but waterproof optics for general use and near water. Unfortunately, the Oceanpro is a fairly large and heavy binocular, larger than my old Tasco 10x50 and may tire your arms after extended handheld use. Due to the size and bulkiness, the optics are better suited for in- boat or vehicle use rather than treking around in the woods. The built-in compass will also be handy on the water and the backlighting works well in the dark. The included stiff-case is very large, similar to a big netbook computer case but, should provide more-than adequent protection from scuffs. The Oceanpro also comes with a big, bright-yellow, "floating" lanyard. An excellent value for the price.

I bought these for sailing, astronomy and wildlife viewing. The optics are what you would expect from Nikon - sharp and bright. The compass and scale are visible, but do not interfere with the image. You have to make sure your eye is is the right position, but you get used to that quickly. I have not dropped them into the water, so I cannot comment on water tightness or the floatation of the strap.

The binocular image is bright and the optics are very sharp. the compass and ruled lines let me take bearings easily accurate to 1 degree, much more accurate than I expected without surveyor's gear.
